Illustration

Drawing was my initial step toward my career in graphic design. I have not stopped since I started when I was a little kid. I get a sense of accomplishment turning a blank canvas into a piece of art.

Due to the virtually infinite amount of applications, most of my illustrations today are created digitally. However, they don't necessarily start that way.

Many of my illustrations start as thumbnails or rough sketches in a Field Notes sketchbook that I keep in my back pocket. This process allows me to get my ideas down quickly without feeling like I need to revise them immediately.

Once I have a decent rough sketch, I take a photo of it and import it into Procreate (the iPad Pro drawing app) to create a refined version of the drawing. I present this refined drawing to the client if a review is needed. When we are finished with the review, I will create the final version of the illustration.

Depending on the final product - whether the illustration needs to be raster or vector - I import the drawing into Photoshop or Illustrator to create the final file.
