Bringing America's Racetracks to Life

Campbell Ewald approached me to create custom illustrations for "Mapping Speed," an article in Chevrolet's New Roads Magazine celebrating five popular tracks across the United States where enthusiasts can drive their own cars. The goal was to highlight each track's unique features by digitally illustrating over photos of wooden track models.

The research process involved visiting each track's website, watching on-track videos, and diving into their histories. I identified turn numbers, segment names, camping areas, stands, and other important features while balancing content across all five tracks—accounting for both the varying richness of each location and the layout's copy and secondary images.

The final result spans seven pages featuring hand-drawn illustrations that guide readers through the distinctive characteristics of every location.
